Frankly, Mr. Morrissey

Last night me and some of my good friends went to T.A. to special party made out mostly of Smiths songs,it was fun but dancing while listening to lyrics such as "hung by his pretty white neck" or Real Poetry (no sarcasm here) like
"but when you are tied to your mother's apron,no-one talks about castration",while seeing pretty girls moving her hips and smiling really makes the whole situation surreal, but maybe things like these makes such parties so special.

Morrissey is such a unique songwriter (at least during his tenure with the band) that he has the ability to make me feel he's singing especially to me,understanding the way I fell,my pains,my sorrows, and even the small moments of joy in my life, although he might sing about being misunderstood from an homosexual point of view, and while I'm not, suffering intolerance and rejection only for being myself really made me identify with his plight, showing that no matter of age, place or sexual orientation, what we all really need is a bit of love and understanding in this harsh and cold world we live in.

Oh,and by the way after the party I've made two conclusions:

1. Mika (the one that sing Love Love Me,and Grace Kelly) makes the Scissor Sisters sound like Led Zeppelin and Freddy Mercury like Axel Rose.

2. The song "Let's Dance to Joy Division" by The Wombats just SUCKS!

Today's Song : Australia - Shins (I asked the DJ to play this and he didn't had this so this is a nice opportunity to play it)

Valentine's Syndrome

It's already after 3 AM and one of the weirdest days of the year had begun,to be honest,I'm not supposed to celebrate Valentine's Day,but every opportunity to celebrate this funny-but-frustrating feeling called Love,is welcomed in my calendar.

I'm getting sentimental in days like these (must be my Latin side) so sometimes days like these bring me down, felling a bit lonely, and thinking about the love of my life, when and how I'll meet her, what will she look like, and so on...
And until that'll happen, all I need is two things: Patience and Hope...

Milkin' Cash...

One of the hardest things about being a student is the lack of time for work, with only two free days, and living relatively far from any major cities (Sderot and Ashkelon don't count),finding a job is no easy task,so in my despair I turned to a common solution: milking cows in my Kibbutz's stable.

For a long time I've tried to avoid doing such work but my present situation left me with little other choice, and besides my old folks insisted almost hourly I should do it,but in the other hand, the thought of cows defecating and\or urinating over my head, the kicks, the hours...

Well, yesterday I had my first shift and it wasn't that bad,the manager was supportive and I managed to go home relatively dry and clean,I guess I've exaggerated my bad memories and maybe I've found a way to earn money with flexible shifts and very close to home while I study.

Oh,the irony...

This morning I went to the clinic of the kibbutz to receive the results of a blood test i took some days ago,and i received a surprising result: I have a deficiency of vitamin B12,how did I got and what symptoms it may cause? well, apparently I'm not eating enough red meat,me,a native Argentinian, being told that he's not eating enough red meat,it's like a Chinese being told he's not eating enough rice, and it may cause attention disorders, mood swings and problems in the nervous system, the doctor actually recommended me to increase (albeit slightly) the quantities of red meat I consume, and I suggested my family to help me follow the recommendations :) but my mother insisted I'll get my vitamins from brown bread and other boring and weird other sources...oh well.

Musical Censorship

Today, whilst I was reading the news in Ynet I stumbled upon an article announcing the commercial release of the long awaited film "Control",which is a dramatized version of the life (and suicide) of Ian Curtis, singer of Joy Division,Poet,Icon,Genius and officially Tortured Soul.
The article itself was informative but I couldn't help notice a small, but annoying mistake, you see,the folks @ Ynet portrayed the movie as a documentary, which wasn't the case as people who really like the band (or at least it's genre) know that it's a drama, and so I wrote a comment informing about the mistake and expressing my enthusiasm of seeing the movie in the near future, and i checked the website hours again only to found they deleted the word "Documentary" and didn't publish my comment, the bastards,I guess the biggest news website in Israel didn't wanted to be portrayed as a bunch of musical know-nothings...or that I'm just a smartass with too much free time...

Now i have a semester holiday and some spare time for my musings and rants to match...

Finally...

Finally...after long months of waiting,I'll start the photography course in Sapir college,in order to make time for studying I had to quit my mind numbing and soul wrecking job (why do you think there wasn't any activity in this blog for half a year?) as a customer service clerk in HOT,the cable TV company. I do feel a little scared and nervous but I guess it's a natural thing when you start something new in your life,I hope that I'll make some progress in the way I portrait life and the way I look at it and develop new perspectives,in photography as well as in life.

Ophir Pines-Paz in Kibbutz Be'eri

Labor Party MK and former Minister Ophir Pines-Paz came to nearby Kibbutz Be'eri and yours truly, with a small group from Mefalsim, went to see him and listen to what he had to say, about the Party, the state, and his plans, should he be elected Party Chairman in the Party's primary elections that will take place next may,it was very interesting and he made very good points, the most important is that he's looking forward mainly to the chairmanship, and not to any certain ministry or portfolio, unlike our current chairman who took a portfolio incompatible with his own qualities...

Some photos from the event:

Ophir was very polite and he was very kind to have a picture taken with yours truly:

(oh,i forgot to comb my hair in advance...)

Our region, being a Labor Party stronghold, will be visited by notable members of the party in the next months, looking for support in their respective campaigns for chairmanship.

Check out their MySpace page, and their website and listen to some of their songs, they sing in english so the language is not an issue in this case,i'm pretty sure you'll like their songs very much like i do :)

A Winter Casualty

As the winter finally came after a dry autumn,I fell prey to the flu,and suffered a severe cough, that cause my throat and tongue to sore, and when I wanted to sleep i couldn't because the coughing always woke me up,the sickness was the main reason why I didn't posted anything new on the last days.

In my despair i turned to cough syrup which didn't made the slightest change in my condition, now I'm taking cough pills which seem to work, albeit with its side effects, and it's always a good reason to enjoy one of my favorite drinks:lemon and honey tea.

On the other hand, the Winter always gives me the opportunity to take colorful pictures :)

Changes in the view, changes in the calendar

Something has changed in the landscape of Mefalsim recently, almost overnight strange white blocks popped out of nowhere, after further observation I realized those strange blocks are mini-shelters strategically positioned in places where children frequent most.

In this reinforment process the Kindergarden and the Nursery have been fortified as well by an extremely thick concrete "roof over the roof" (when i'll find the right word for it i'll change it).

I wish that this year,2007,would be a more peaceful and tranquil year,to ourselves and our neighbors as well.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Snoring in the face of danger

My Father (left) and some old dude checking a fallen kassam rocket,Mefalsim,31.8.06.

People in this region, myself included, got accustomed to hear the kassam alarms almost on a daily basis, people even make jokes about it,for example, when we hear the explosion sound that follows the alarm people say it's Ahlama Peretz (the slightly obese wife of Amir Peretz) jumping into a pool...
There are people here that are terrified when the alarm rings, and it's the most natural reaction i can think of,but more and more people are getting apathic about this almost to the point of being nonchalant, people died already from the rockets, but we keep something of a "stiff upper lip" in the face of danger, people living in the north maybe can relate to that behaviour but people living in Central Israel (the vast majority) just can't understand it,one friend of mine from Tel-Aviv visited me and when we were leaving the grocery store the alarm started and she was very surprised that people kept behaving like nothing happened, like they sensed no threat, and I slowly walked with her under the outer roof of the store, just in case;my girlfriend (who also lives in Central Israel) stayed over to sleep in my house, the alarm ranged in the morning and it woke us up,and she couldn't believe that my first reaction was to sleep again immediately.
This reality of our lives being threatened daily is turning us indifferent about it,it's not very natural, but it's something close to a survival strategy,we have 2 choices,to act like this and wait for the best or to live in fear and panic and satisfy the terrorists.

2 Different posts for the price of 1!

1st of all i want to be extremely original and accept Time Magazine's "Man of the Year Award" (along with millions and millions more :),I've made a little acceptance speech for the occasion:
I always knew since those lonely and long afternoons after-school back in 1995,while me and others were sitting and staring at the screen like zombies and waiting up to 5 min. for a website to fully load on Navigator ver.2,that something good will eventually come of this,i want to thank my computer teachers,Shem, for introducing me to this wonder, and Eli Bir,for letting me and others hang around in the technology room of the school and allowed me to keep discovering the hidden wonders of the Internet for hours as an unofficial after-school activity,I want to thank my parents for connecting our home computer to the internet and satisfying my growing internet addiction even further :) (applauds)

And now for something completely different.
A couple of hours ago I heard that Joseph Barbera sadly passed away, and myself being a HUGE Tom & Jerry fan,I want to make a very small homage to the man and the great couple he was part of,by posting one,IMHO,of the best Tom & Jerry episodes ever made:Pecos Pest

An unusual event

Last Tuesday,at math class,i had the middle-course test, against all odds and expectations,i received 65 points, and actually passed a math test, why i was so surprised you might ask, well, let's just say that math was,and still is,a nightmare, just looking at all this numbers gathered with letters,in grids, tables and strange structures freaks me up,I never was very brilliant at math as long as i can remember myself, and I was diagnosed with A.D.D. and dyscalculia,so it's also scientifically proven why i hate math so much, but destiny intervened and i have to receive more than 56 points at the final test,in January 29th,just 4 days after my 25th birthday,so i can study photography (a favorite hobby of mine) next year, and maybe, just maybe make a carrer of something which i happen to like very much.
Oh,the irony...

It's Raining Again...

Just on my way back home from my girlfriend's house in Tel-Aviv,there i was sitting half-asleep in the bus during the night ride when suddenly i saw some flashes in the horizon..lightnings...but I stepped out the bus when the rain was already over...pity.

Tomorrow I'm back in college to continue my math class, after missing two lessons in a row,i should better get a stronger grip on myself if i want to succeed and learn photography next year (my dream).

A Minor Disturbance

There I was,at college, minding my own business, studying in my math class when suddenly the familiar and automatic female prerecorded voice anounced "Tzeva Adom,Tzeva Adom" (Red color) ,which is the kassam alarm, and all we had to do is just wait and listen to the explosion sound right afterwards, maybe one day i can record the sounds so you also can have the experience as well :) .

Just good-ol' routine here, downloading episodes of my favorite TV Show,CSI,and CSI: NY is turning into my favorite of the 3,although i like the other 2 very much as well.

Introduction

well first of all...allow me to introduce myself,David is the name, why David you might ask? long story, all I can tell is that the statue of David,in Florence has something to do with that.

I live in a region in Israel called the Negev, well, the Western Negev would be more accurate, which is "worldwide famous" for being the area that surrounds Gaza Strip.

This is Gaza Strip, and the E Point is Kibutz Mefalsim,my Kibutz,Home.

As some people might know, our region is attacked daily by kassam rockets fired from our "neighbors",what i want to show the world is that although we are threatened on a daily basis,we're also keen on preserving our sanity, our "joie de vivre" and most of all,our attempts to live a life as normal as possible.

I know,because i do it too.

and this blog will be the account of my attempt.
